Gov. Scott Walker appointed Appeals Court Judge Rebecca Bradley to the state Supreme Court Friday to fill a vacancy left by the passing of Justice N. Patrick Crooks in September.

Bradley was appointed by Scott Walker to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in 2012, won election in her own right in 2013, and was just recently appointed to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals in 2015.

“I think she is the best person to be on the Supreme Court today,” said Gov. Walker in a press availability Friday. Walker said his three criterea for judicial appointments was integrity, someone who understands the law, and someone who understands the role of the judiciary to uphold the Constitution.

“I’m deeply honored and humbled that the governor would express his confidence in me,” said Judge Bradley. “I believe the voters over the next six months will have the opportunity to evaluate the credentials of who will best serve.”

Bradley’s appointment to the court makes her the first justice in Wisconsin history to have experience at both the trial court level and the court of appeals. With the appointment, conservatives get a 5-2 majority on the court.

“I warmly welcome a new Justice Bradley to the Wisconsin Supreme Court,” said Chief Justice Roggensack.

Bradley was already an announced candidate for the state Supreme Court. She will face election in April 2015 as an incumbent against either Circuit Court Judge Joe Donald or Appeals Court Judge Joanne Kloppenburg.
